Spots are rapidly filling for Heartwood’s 15th session of summer camp for students entering grades 3-12, scheduled June 26 thru July 6. Heartwood’s theater camps teach performance skills and promote student confidence both on and off the stage. Scholarships are available upon request, with the help of many local business donations and grant support.
“Kids Camp” is a popular 8 day program exploring the areas of storytelling, stage combat, improvisation, acting and movement, designed specifically for students entering grades 3-8. No prior experience necessary.
For middle school students who have previous theater experience and for high school students, the 8 day “Intensives Camp” focuses on the multiple areas of scene work, stage combat, graphics, classic/poetic language, improvisation, movement and monologues.
Students will work with a diverse and professional staff, specializing in varied areas: Griff Braley, Heartwood’s Artistic Director and LA Drama Teacher; Alison Machaiek, award winning Drama Instructor at Oceanside High School in Rockland; Broadway Choreographer/Singer/Dancer/Ac tress Michelle Bruckner; Karen Montanaro, Mime/Dance Artist and Teacher; and Stephen Shore, Fight Choreographer and Instructor.
The student/teacher ratio is enviably low, with the help of several professional actors in residence for Heartwood’s summer production of “Into the Woods” who will work closely with students, sharing their acting experience and enthusiasm for the stage.
Many sponsors make Heartwood’s youth programming possible, including Heartwood’s Season Sponsor, Bath Savings Institution, Season Youth Sponsor, Damariscotta Hardware, and Camp Sponsor, The First.
Full details and registration forms are available on Heartwood’s website at www.heartwoodtheater.org, by emailing info@heartwoodtheater.org, or by phoning 563-1373.
